Caring for Your Jewellery

Each piece of jewellery holds a story, a memory, and an energy all of its own. With a little mindful care, your gold, silver, and vermeil pieces will continue to shine and be cherished for years to come.

Daily Rituals of Care
  • Put on your jewellery last, after applying perfume, lotion, or hair products. This keeps chemicals away from delicate surfaces.
  • Remove jewellery before swimming, exercising, or household chores. Chlorine, salt water, sweat, and cleaning products can all damage metals.
  • Avoid knocks, tugs, and pulls that can distort fine chains or loosen settings.
  • Wipe your jewellery gently with a soft cloth after wearing to remove oils and keep it looking bright.
Cleaning Your Jewellery

Each metal deserves its own care ritual:

Sterling Silver

Silver naturally tarnishes with time, but wearing it often helps keep it bright. To clean, soak in warm water with a little mild soap, gently brush with a soft toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid bleach or harsh cleaners, and ensure no water remains trapped in settings.

Solid Gold

Gold is strong and enduring, yet still benefits from gentle care. A soak in warm soapy water, a soft brush, and a polish with a lint-free cloth will restore its glow. Rinse well and dry fully. Keep gold pieces separate to prevent scratching, and never expose them to chlorine or abrasive products.

Gold Vermeil

Vermeil is a layer of gold over sterling silver and needs a delicate touch. Use lukewarm water with mild soap and a soft cloth to clean. Avoid brushing or rubbing too hard, and dry straight away. Perfume, lotions, and harsh chemicals can wear away the plating, so remove your vermeil jewellery before applying these.

Storing Your Jewellery

When not being worn, keep jewellery in a cool, dry place away from humidity. Bathrooms are not ideal, as moisture accelerates tarnish and wear. Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or lined box to avoid scratches, tangling, and damage to plating. Make sure jewellery is fully dry before storing to prevent tarnish or corrosion.

Longevity & Professional Care

Jewellery naturally evolves with wear — polished finishes soften, matte surfaces burnish, and vermeil plating will gently fade over time. These changes are part of each piece’s journey with you, but they can also be refreshed.

  • Clean pieces you wear often about once a month to keep them shining.
  • Bring your jewellery for professional cleaning, polishing, or re-plating every 6–12 months if you’d like to restore its original finish.
  • Have clasps, links, and stone settings checked regularly to ensure they remain secure.

A Personal Note

Each piece I make is designed to be worn, loved, and lived with. Over time, it will gather its own character and marks of your story. Caring for your jewellery is less about keeping it perfect, and more about honouring the journey it takes with you. With a little mindful care, your piece will stay radiant for many years to come.
